BC's "little nugget" is set amidst snowcapped mountains and forested hills and offers numerous adventures for the outdoor explorer. Hike, rock climb, and camp around Lillooet and enjoy the grandeur of the open space. Have a crack at rock hunting and search the terrain for jasper, garnet, soapstone and rhodonite. The largest deposits of BC jade are also found in the area so you shouldn’t have to hunt too hard before you come up a winner.

Or try your hand at gold panning along the Fraser River. "Chinese rocks" still stand beside the banks as a remembrance of the Chinese miners who searched the banks for gold, neatly stacking the rocks in piles as they went. You can find an example of this near the Hangman's Tree, an old Ponderosa pine tree just beyond Main Street. The Hangman's Tree was used as gallows over 100 years ago when Sir Begbie was a travelling judge and was considered "the law" throughout the Cariboo. Legend has it that eight men had their lives cut short at the end of a rope, although records can only prove that two were hanged and buried beneath the gnarled pine.“Only in Lillooet Days”, an annual festival that celebrates the spirit of Lillooet’s history, occurs during the second weekend July. The noon train from Vancouver is held-up by the legendary Ridley Gang, but fear not, the lawbreakers are captured and a trail is held by Judge Begbie. The desperados are sentenced to hang, but to find out whether they receive justice or manage to escape, you’ll have to make the trip. Dinner and a casino conclude Saturday’s festivities, but logger sports have everybody whooping it up on Sunday. It’s no wonder that “Only in Lillooet Days” is a celebration that only Lillooet can host.
